Industrial CO2 Safety

What are the steps for CO2 gas safety?

When it comes to hazardous gas in the workplace, there are a combination of best practices and safety training that should be followed. These processes reinforce the controlled use and proper containment of potential dangerous gases like carbon dioxide, oxygen, liquid nitrogen, carbon monoxide, and others.

What is a CO2 Safety System?

A CO2 safety system is a system designed to monitor, detect and control the levels of carbon dioxide in a given environment.

With CO2Meter's CO2 safety systems you can monitor carbon dioxide levels and detect leaks protecting facilities and offices from overexposure. Our CM-7000 CO2 safety system uses one central tablet that can manage several CO2 sensors at once.

In industrial settings, CO2 is often used as a refrigerant, and in some cases, it can escape into the surrounding area, creating a potentially hazardous situation. A CO2 safety system is used to detect and control the level of CO2 in such environments, helping to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of workers and the general public.

Does a CO2 safety alarm work for CO or other gases?

No. Carbon dioxide safety alarms use specific NDIR CO2 sensors to detect the levels of CO2 gas in the atmosphere only. Different sensors are required to measure carbon monoxide (CO) or other gases.

Can an oxygen level alarm be used for other gases?

It depends on the gas. Low oxygen levels are caused by oxygen being displaced by another gas. For example, a room with 5% CO2 levels could still contain breathable levels of oxygen, yet still be dangerous to humans. A room with 0.01% carbon monoxide would be deadly to breathe, yet not trigger an oxygen alarm. However, an oxygen level alarm would sound in a room where the oxygen was displaced by nitrogen, argon, helium, nitrous oxide or other inert gases.
