OSHA Regulatory and Recommended Limits for CO2
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is the rule-making body for the government as it applies to safety in the workplace. OSHA defines the limits of gases workers can be exposed to, and the requirements for employers to provide gas safety monitors and alarms when necessary.
A confined space is an enclosed space with limited entry and exit access. Because of the possibility of harmful gasses, OSHA has created safety standards for workers who access confined spaces.
Which OSHA standards require gas monitors?
OSHA standards require the use of gas monitors. See paragraph (c) (5) (ii) (C) of 29 CFR 1910.146 (Permit-required confined spaces); paragraph (c) (6) of 29 CFR 1910.120 (Hazardous waste operations and emergency response); and section 5 (Entry into bins, silos, and tanks) of Appendix A of 29 CFR 1910.272 (Grain handling facilities).
